Insects of Japan
Nathan is head zookeeper in Reptilehouse the Earth. He will hold his lecture about insects in Japan and what makes them unique, where to find them and what connects them to Japanese history. The lecture will finish with a stick insect that people can hold!
Nathan is the Head Animal Keeper at Reptielenhuis de Aarde and will be joining AnimeCon this year to introduce you to the fascinating world of insects in Japan! During AnimeCon, Nathan will host three lectures: one focusing on Japanese reptiles, one of Japanese insects and one of Japanese amphibians.
The lecture will begin with a short introduction to insects: what they are, what makes them unique, and what distinguishes them from other animals. Nathan will then introduce some of Japan’s most unusual and fascinating species, explaining what they look like, where they can be found, and, where relevant, their connections to Japanese history and culture.
Meet a Real Insect!
The lecture will end with a special live animal encounter featuring a stick insect. This fascinating insect is accustomed to being handled by people. After the lecture, visitors will have the opportunity to hold the stick insect. Nathan has been safely hosting these kinds of animal encounters at Reptielenhuis de Aarde for more than 10 years. And for all the cosplayers out there: meeting a real insect might make for a pretty memorable cosplay photo, so take your chance!
Curious about the insect species of Japan? Make sure to join Nathan’s lecture at AnimeCon! If the lecture sparked a newfound love for insects, you can always visit Reptielenhuis de Aarde in Breda to discover more amazing animals!
