Japanese Calligraphy Experience

Would you like to experience the art of Japanese calligraphy? Try writing Japanese characters from your favorite anime names or words that hold special meaning to you.

Japan Women’s Club (JWC) is a volunteer group based in Amstelveen, dedicated to introducing Japanese culture and fostering cultural exchange between the Netherlands and Japan.

In this workshop, you'll have the opportunity to experience writing Japanese calligraphy on traditional washi paper using authentic Japanese brushes and ink. They will prepare several kanji (or katakana) examples based on anime characters for you to choose from, or you can simply write words that inspire you. If you want to support their activities, we would greatly appreciate any donations to JWC.

About JWC

The official name of JWC is "The Japan Women's Club in Nederland." It is a non-profit organization established in 1989 with the aim of interacting directly with the Dutch local community and building closeness and trust.

JWC works to deepen exchanges between the Netherlands and Japan. In 2000, which marked the 400th anniversary of friendship between the Netherlands and Japan, we donated "cherry blossoms" to commemorate this. A total of 501 Somei-yoshino cherry trees were planted in three locations: 400 in Amsterdamse Bos, 40 along Deshima Street in Amstelveen, and 61 near Van Gogh Museum. JWC donates the profits it earns through its activities to various organizations.
